It all began at a smoke-filled converted firehouse called Pool Hand Luke's in New London, CT in early 1997. Yes, believe it or not, 2007 marked 10 years of music-making for the Rivergods and their unique brand of folk-country-roots-rock-whatever music. To commemorate a decade of music-making, the Rivergods readied a collection of rarities and b-sides available for FREE right here at therivergods.com. Titled Rivolver, the free CD-length features, in mostly chronological order, lost recordings from all of the band’s lineups and studio projects over the years. Save for a few early cassettes distributed as demo tapes or at early shows, none of the songs on Rivolver have been “officially” released before. Rivolver includes some of the band’s earliest primordial musings from 1997, an early version of their song “Paul Revere” which later appeared on our debut CD Capsule from 2000, as well as cuts from our shelved 1998 510 Main Street EP, which found the band starting to dive deep into their burgeoning country-roots-tinged sound and the one-and-only Nancy Brossard performing with the band for the first time. An upbeat track commissioned by Mitchell College in 2001 called “Ocean’s Edge”, a lost seven-minute epic ballad (“Slow Fire”) off of 2003’s Time Has Come, and several blistering live cuts from the Rivergods’ “Farewell for Now” show in June of 2005 round out the CD. |
